Wow it's been a really long time since my last post. Lets try to keep the gap smaller this time. Exciting news for Driftwood City. A grant we applied for finally came through and we are now able to purchase the items and appliances that will finally allow us to open the Youth Hostel officially! We will be receiving a refrigerator, oven, microwave, washer & Dryer, 4 shower units and plumbing materials. My next step is to complete the paint scraping project and then repaint the hostel so its not as dark and dreary when guest stay. Fresh paint, new (free) appliances, do you smell a dream coming true too?

Part 2
This blog will be used as a personal blog as well as Driftwood Cities blog for now. I figure, I am apart of Quapaw and everything I do is associated with Quapaw Canoe CO. in some way, so whether it's hostel news or Mississippi River news it will be shared here for all to enjoy :)
That being said, I have started my training in becoming a Mississippi River guide for Quapaw Canoe Company! Every saturday I travel to Helena Arkansas where I go out on the Mississippi River for a few hours with my dog and learn the ways of paddling and guiding. This means learning all sorts of things, to the obvious; learning to paddle. Or the not so obvious of what people may ask me while on a guided trip; "What kind of bird is that?" Very soon I expect to be a master of a 12 mile run of the Mississippi River.

Part 3
My friend has been kayaking the Missouri River this summer, and if any is interested go to his website for his updates.

Quapaw Canoe Company is outfitting "Below the Surface" that will begin its week long adventure into Atchafalaya swamp (Americas largest Slough) to conduct water testing in the sorrounding sloughs. Guy and Kristian arrived last night to become one of the first tenants of Driftwood City. We will follow their expedition as closely as possible, and wish them luck throughout their journey!

Bar turned Youth Hostel

Driftwood City is looking like a Youth Hostel more and more each day! We have collected big pieces of driftwood, and even attached two pieces to casters so they can be rolled around and moved into any position around the hostel. Also, I have set a few tents up so we can have a photo shoot in which we can show potential investors exactly what Driftwood City will look like when it is ready to be opened to the public. Grand opening is set to be April 16th, the Day Juke Joint Festival begins in Clarksdale. "May the river be with you"
